Women in Construction

A great powerpoint presenation on: What is construction industry? What is the climate for women? What are the barriers to selecting women? Skills shortage by occupation in the construction industry for NSW? How does the skill shortage offer a window of opportunity for women?
Key stakeholders including CFMEU, Industry Business Council for Construction and Property Services, DET New Apprenticeship Centre and key staff in institutes and MECAT curriculum centre were interviewed. A desk top review of current trends and employment opportunities for women in the industry was undertaken. The outcomes of this work will be made available in the form of fact sheets. In the next stage a pilot program will be conducted in term four at Sydney Institute with support from the Master Painters and Decorators Group Training Company. Women will be encouraged into painting and decorating training.
